Next up in our series of digging tales is a Balkan curator, Minolta. Here are the jams that have recently captured her attention and inspired her collection!

Active in Croatia’s independent radio scene and a regular at clubs and festivals in the region, Minolta brings free-spirited music selections that resonate with a wide range of listeners. From Balearic tutti-frutti and disco romance to proto-house jams and forgotten deep-house classics, her main goal is always the same: to make you dance and feel something.

As a DJ and curator, Minolta draws endless inspiration from the Adriatic sun and sea, as well as the energy of her friends and loved ones. She currently holds a residency at the Croatian club Manual and hosts monthly radio shows on Radio KLFM and RADIO D59B where she focuses on discoveries, cinematic frames and storytelling.

1) United Future Organization – The Sixth Sense (1993)

"An absolute masterpiece of chill and refreshment. I stumbled upon this record very spontaneously while digging for acid jazz records and immediately felt that exhilarating sense of rediscovery. The blend of vocals reminiscent of Massive Attack combined with the lyrical depth, elevate the song experience to another level. It sets a beautiful foundation for the start of a new day, year, or a week, enveloping you in a fresh and inspiring ambiance."

2) Sun Electric – Sundance (1994)

"My current go-to song for following the sunset. It gives me that feeling of a blissful sense of satisfied exhaustion after a whole day of swimming and soaking up the sun. It soothes you and prepares you for the next chapter of the day — a night filled with the scent of summer in the air, new conversations, and fresh memories waiting to be made. Whew! I am absolutely forever grateful for Jose Padilla's amazing craft and his legacy of Cafe del Mar compilations from which this song originates."

3) Glenn Davis – Special (2021)

"This is what ballroom beats are all about – attitude, realness and those crazy good drums and piano. To me, this tune is the distillation of everything good about true house music – it remains faithful to the early pioneers’ vision of what they hoped house music would become."

4) Designer Loops – I Believe (1991)

"Proper deep house music, can't wait to play this one on the floor! I am a bit ashamed that I didn't find it earlier haha but at the same time so happy about the discovery. Originally released in 1991 by two major talents on the Amsterdam scene - Frequency & Abraxas aka Designer Loops."

5) Mickey Oliver – I Need A Beat (By Ralph Rosiario) (1989)

"It's sensual, it's dreamy, it's taking you somewhere else. Chicago's house gem from the late eighties by Mickey Oliver, radio and club DJ star with the Hot Mix 5 and owner of the (now legendary) Hot Mix 5 Records. What's more, this track is an authentic Larry Heard production created specifically for Mickey Oliver. You can find it on "Sweet House Chicago" compilation, which perfectly captures the essence of Chicago’s vibrant scene in the late eighties."
