Label Spotlight: Revibed Welcomes Bahnsteig 23

At Revibed, we love music with a story, the kind of records that transport you to another place and time. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce that we now stock the bold, genre-blurring catalogue of Bahnsteig 23, a label that lives at the fascinating crossroads of EBM, Italo, and Krautrock, often with a sly nod to the underground spirit of the 1980s.

Founded in 2015 and run by the enigmatic Ziggy, Bahnsteig 23 carved a niche for itself in the edit and rework scene, turning overlooked gems and obscure cuts into thrilling dancefloor weapons. Known for its “drippy skull” aesthetic, the label’s visual identity is just as distinctive as its sound: dark, hypnotic, and just a little bit dangerous.

From Emotional Rescue to Bahnsteig 23

Bahnsteig 23 was part of the family of labels orbiting Stuart Leath (aka Chuggy), the London-based DJ and digger behind Emotional Rescue. While Emotional Rescue focused on reissuing rare and forgotten music, Bahnsteig 23 was where Ziggy and friends got experimental, crafting edits and reimaginations that blurred the lines between nostalgia and reinvention.

Eventually, Bahnsteig 23 evolved into Platform 23 Records, co-run by Chuggy and Ziggy, carrying forward their shared mission of curation and sonic exploration. But the sublabel's original run left behind a treasure trove of thirty releases that still sound as fresh and daring as the day they dropped.

The Sound of Bahnsteig 23

If we had to describe Bahnsteig 23 in three words, they might be: dark, driving, and playful. Their output is built around the skeleton of 1980s dance music, fleshed out with modern production and fearless editing. You’ll hear pulsing basslines borrowed from EBM (Electronic Body Music), shimmering synth melodies that nod to Italian disco, and hypnotic rhythms that owe a debt to the motorik drive of German Krautrock.

Expect muscular beats, shadowy atmospheres, and a sly wink to the dancefloors of Berlin, Milan, and Düsseldorf circa 1983, still relevant for the present day. The releases take adventurous paths, pairing exotic rhythms with coldwave textures, or fusing tropical percussion with icy synth stabs. Every track feels like an invitation to a secret party you only hear about from the right kind of friend.
